Constraint-Induced Aphasia Therapy (CIAT) following sub-acute stroke
The trend towards a shorter stay in rehabilitation clinic has implications for future language therapy. CIAT is administered 3 hours per day for a total of 30 hours of treatment. It was evaluated for patients with chronic aphasia. In the present study we investigated the efficacy of a modified CIAT schedule and included patients with sub-acute stroke. We conducted a randomized, single-blind, parallel-group study. The results were compared to those of patients who received identically intensive treatment focusing on conventional aphasia therapy.

Measurement of residual cognitive functions of patients in persisten vegetative state
Acute brain injury can cause a loss of arousability and consciousness, a state that is known as coma. Different processes of remission after an acute phase of brain injury can be distinguished. An important diagnostical purpose is the uncovering of a patients’ minimal conscious state.

Music-supported training in the rehabilitation of motor functions after stroke
In a cooperational project of the Median Clinic NRZ Magdeburg and the University of Magdeburg (Department of Psychology), the evaluation of using musical feedback in the rehabilitation of motor functions was continued. Stroke patients with a hemiparetic arm undergo a music-supported training of fine and gross motor skills (MUT, see Schneider, 2007). A patient control group takes part in a motor training without music, having the same amount of training sessions.
