6th Symposium of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery at Magdeburg University Hospital in Oschersleben
The University Clinic for Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Magdeburg invites all interested doctors and citizens of the region to a joint evening in which new procedures in the treatment of heart disease will be presented.
The sixth Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Symposium will take place at Oschersleben Castle on 27 November 2024. Prof Jens Wippermann, Director of the University Clinic for Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Magdeburg, is looking forward to welcoming numerous visitors. Further information can be found in the flyer.
The symposium begins at 18:00 with a welcome address by Prof Wippermann. Cardiac surgeons from Magdeburg University Medical Centre will then give various specialist lectures. Prof Maximilian Scherner, Senior Consultant at the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Düsseldorf University Hospital, will report on the topic of "Modern catheter-based heart valve therapy ’. Privatdozent Dr Max Wacker, specialist at the University Clinic for Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, will talk about Barostim therapy, which is considered an effective treatment for high blood pressure and weak hearts. In June 2014, the first implantation of a baroreceptor stimulator was successfully carried out under his supervision. The nerve stimulation system can be used in patients with high blood pressure or heart failure. This innovative procedure offers new hope for patients with therapy-resistant hypertension (high blood pressure) and chronic heart failure (cardiac insufficiency). Magdeburg University Hospital is the only centre in Saxony-Anhalt to offer baroreceptor activation therapy.
After the presentations, there will be an opportunity to ask the speakers questions in person.
