Using poetry to raise awareness - invitation to a dementia poetry slam in the run-up to Ethics Day 2025
The motto of this year's Ethics Day at UMMD on 19 June is ‘With dementia in hospital’. In preparation for this, the Clinical Ethics Committee of the UMMD, in cooperation with MINDdrop e.V., is organising a special participatory event: a poetry slam on the topic of dementia.
Short literary events will be offered on the medical campus on 6 June 2025. Readings will take place in the foyer of the canteen, the foyer of the Central Medical Library and in the foyer of House 60a between 12 noon and 2 pm. Members of MINDdrop e. V. will read poems that deal with the topic of dementia from different perspectives.
Patients and relatives as well as counsellors, carers and healthcare professionals from hospitals and research institutions are invited to take up the pen themselves and write a poem. The contributions can include personal, professional or creative approaches to the topic. The poems can be presented anonymously if desired; a personal presentation by the author is also possible.

The campaign is intended to shed light on the topic of dementia from different perspectives and provide low-threshold access to the discussion of ethical issues in everyday clinical practice.
